GICLEE

A
Giclee Print With the advent of
the Giclee, the art of fine art printing has become even more precise.
The Giclee process combines advanced computing and printing technology
to replicate the original work of art. Given the nature of the process
it gives the artist much more control over the reproduction process and
the end result. The printing process begins with the artists original
piece of artwork which is captured through a highly sophisticated
digital imaging process and then taken through an in-depth digital
printing process. Because no screens are used, the prints have a higher
apparent resolution than lithographs. The dynamic color range is like
that of serigraphy. In the Giclee process, a fine stream of ink; of
more than four million droplets per second; is sprayed onto archival
watercolor paper. The effect is similar to an air brush technique but
much
finer. Each piece is carefully hand-mounted onto a drum which rotates
during printing. Exact calculations of hue, value and density direct
the ink of four nozzles. This produces a combination of 512 chromatic
changes (with over 3 million colors possible) of highly saturated,
nontoxic, waterbed ink. The artist's color approval and input are
essential for creating the final custom setting for the edition. We
produce our Giclee prints at one of the most sophisticated facilities
in the country using the highest resolution digital printers available.
Editions of fine are prints are born of a collaboration between the
artist, and specially trained printing craftsmen. Displaying a full
color spectrum, Giclee prints capture every nuance of an original
painting - be it watercolor or oil - and have gained widespread
acceptance from artists and collectors. Giclee prints should be treated
like any other piece of fine art on paper. They should be protected
from excessive light, moisture, and heat. They are rendered using water
-based inks (they are watercolors) and should be treated like
watercolors.
